B League Picayune
Often in error, never in doubt.
Volume 5, Issue 1 – February 20, 2023
Weather: We enjoyed a glorious day today for our second pre-season practice: clear and sunny, temperature in the mid to high 70s.
Extending a warm Picayune welcome to our new players – I got to meet a number of you at today’s and last week’s practices, and I may even have successfully added you to the league’s Google Group. Among the new players…
Jeff Stone, whom a number of us have batted against up at Sun City …
… and Adam Reddell, who practiced last Monday.A number of 2022 B-Leaguers haven’t been able to make either of the two practices. Krieg 3 is available to us again this Thursday February 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. – come out if you’d like to take some batting practice. If you haven’t yet registered, it’s definitely not too late to do so (really, it’s never too late to join!), but it will be helpful to the Roster Committee if you could text Scott Wright at 214-734-6717 to let him know you intend to play this year. The Roster Committee will be meeting Wednesday morning, so please alert Scott by end of day tomorrow so he’ll have a complete head count heading into that important meeting. As of Monday night, B League has 79 registered players; C League has 45, with 12 playing in both leagues. It looks most likely that B League will go with seven teams. Our 2023 managers:Tim BalkeDavid Berra

Opening Day will be Thursday March 2. Before then the board will communicate the season-starting rosters and distribute the season schedule.
Quote of the Day: Jeff Broussard on Gil De Los Santos (above left): “You can learn a lot from this guy. Maybe not about softball, but about life. He’s seen it all.”
Exchange of the day:
Alex Valles (above right), handing a check for his 2023 registration to Mike Hill: “Don’t cash it till November, okay?”
Rick Jensen: “Funny, that’s what your sister said to me.”
Keggy’s Korner:
Two things worth mentioning:
1. Mike Velaney used the word “svelte” in a sentence this morning. I cannot compete.
2. The Picayune has an advertising sponsor, with more to follow – please welcome, and patronize (link below!), Beebe Sports.
