Game Day Gazette
October 6, 2025
Today marked the first game of the 5th and final session of the 2025 season. The C division awards it’s championship based on the team with the best overall season long record (as opposed to the B division that holds a year end tournament to decide their league championship). This approach was decided prior to the start of the season, and we will not change it during the season regardless of the respective team records. Let the pennant race begin!
Game 1 8:00 a.m. Senators (0-0-0) vs. Keystones (0-0-0)
First & Second Inning Recap:
Senators– Denny Malloy led off the game with a clean single to right. Henry Flores and Raul DeLeon followed with back-to-back hits to plate the 1st run of the game for the Senators. Jerry Mylius singled to advance Greg to 2B. Roger Geras picked up an infield single to load the bases. Rick Parker lined a shot to left field to bring home Greg with the third run. 2nd– Ray Pilgrim led off the 2nd with a sharp single to left. Lucky Hoffman then drew walk. Denny grounded to 2B, and Paul Rubin flipped the ball to Patrick Schmidt for the force out. Henry singled to put runners on 1B and 2B. Greg followed with a base hit between 1B and 2B to plate the 2nd run. Jerry came up with the big hit as he delivered a two=out two run single with a drive down the right field line.
Keystones-lesser than normal turnout of the Keystone regulars resulted in Morris Carter having to draw four players from the bucket (Paul Rubin, Mickey Poole, Jeff Broussard and very late addition of Gary Coyle). The first three batters (John Flowers, Patrick Schmidt and Bobby Hawthorne) all reached on singles to quickly load the bases. Senators’ pitcher, Greg Lloyd, was unable to find the strike zone and walked Tommy DeLeon and Mike Mordecai to force in the first tow runs of the inning. Robby Vickery lined a wicked shot down to 1B and Lucky made a great backhand stab for the 1st out. Johnny Neville popped out to 2B for the 2nd out. Paul Rubin hit a weak pop fly to 3B for the final out, leaving the bases loaded. 2nd– The “Good” mercenaries took over in the 2nd as Mickey Poole ripped a double to CF to start the inning. Jeff Broussard laced a single up the middle to move Mickey to 3B. Gary Coyle smacked a double to left center to bring in both runners. John lined a shot to 1B, and Lucky made another fine catch for the 1st out. Greg got Patrick to foul out for the 2nd out. Bobby and Tommy followed with back-to-back hits to load the bases. Mike M. stroked a single to Cf to score two runs. Robby finished off the Keystones five-run inning with a base hit to right to knot the score at 7-7.
End of 2nd Score: Senators 7 Keystones 7
Third Inning Recap:

Keystones- continued to rake in the 3rd as they put up their 2nd five-run inning in a row. Johnny drew a walk to start the inning. Paul single to left center. Mickey singled to load the bases. Jeff and Gary both hit into run-scoring fielder’s choice groundouts to drive in the first two runs of the frame. The top of the lineup took care of the rest and consecutive singles by John, Patrick, Bobby and Tommy produced three more runs to give the Keystones a five-run lead in the contest.
End of 3rd Score: Keystones 12 Senators 7
Fourth Inning Recap:
Senators-Denny opened the 4th with a line single to right. Henry flew out to right center for the 1st out. Raul singled to left as Denny advanced to 3B. He scored on Terry’s groundout to 2B. Greg hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Robby grounded to 1B, and the ball caromed off Lucky’s glove, but Greg alertly scooped up the ball and beat Robby to the base for the out. Johnny laced a single to left center and Patrick, running from the plate, tried to “steal” 2B but the Senators were not fooled and made the play to get the inning ending out at 2B.
End of 4th Score: Keystones 12 Senators 8

Game 2 9:30 a.m. Braves (0-0-0) vs. Sultans (0-0-0)
First & Second Inning Recap:
Braves– playing short-handed this morning as the Braves only had five regulars in their lineup. Manager, Tom Kelm, tried to put together the best multi-colored lineup as he drew Scott Wright, Butch Barber and Mickey Poole from the Pioneers; Raul DeLeon from the Senators and Patrick Schmidt, John Flowers and Johnny Neville from the Keystones. Paul Rubin led off the game with a line single up the middle. Lynn Simpson popped a ball to 3B that Gary Coyle was unable to catch on a fly but made the throw to 1B to get the out. Dave Berra singled and Tom Kelm followed with a sharp single to left to drive in Paul with the 1st run. Brian Rider popped a ball over the infield for a a single to load the bases. Scott Wright ripped a ball down the right field line for a two-run single. Butch Barber hot a sharp grounder to right for a run-scoring single. Jack Kelly was able to retire Mickey on a grounder to 2B and Raul on a fly to CF to limit the Braves to four runs in the frame. 2nd–Jack retired the Braves in order in the 2nd getting three groundball outs from Patrick, John and Johnny.
Sultans– with their core team members back and healthy, the Sultans put up a formidable lineup for today’s game. Donnie Janac and Gary Coyle opened the game with back-to-back singles. Peter Atkins hit a high chopper to the right side. It took some time for the fielder to reach the ball and with Peter’s speed he was able to get all the way to 3B on the play. Ray Pilgrim singled to drive him in with the 3rd run. Singles by Jeff Broussard and Phil Stanch loaded the bases. Don Roets smoked a ball down the right field line that skipped past the fielder for a two-run triple to complete the Sultan’s five run first inning. 2nd– Adam Gordon walked leading off the 2nd. Lucky Hoffman grounded out for the 1st out. Rip Wright singled up the middle as Adam advanced to 3B. Jack Kelly bounced back to P Tom Kelm, and he made the throw to 1B for the 2nd out. Adam tried to score from 3B on the play and looked like he would make it. However, the turf gods tripped him up a few steps from the plate and Dave Berra sticking with the play, made a nice throw to Johnny at the plate to end the inning.
End of 2nd Score: Sultans 5 Braves 4
Third Inning Recap:
Braves- Paul led off the 3rd with a line single up the middle. Lynn walked but was forced out on Dave’s groundball to 2B. Tom hit a flyball to medium deep left center allowing Paul to trot home with the Braves only run of the inning.
Sultans-Luther Elmore ground out to short to open the inning. The next seven batters reached base as the Sultans put up five runs to take control of the game. Donnie and Gary singled ahead of Peter’s RBI single. Ray drove in Gary with a liner to CF. Jeff continued to swing a hot bat with an RBI single to left center for the 3rd run. Rip singled up the middle, but Jack lined out to 1B for the final out (Dave Berra injured his finger on the play and had to leave the game, hopefully nothing serious).
End of 4th Score: Sultans 10 Braves 6
Fifth Inning Recap:
Braves- Jack Kelly continued to hold the Braves hitters at bay as he retired the side in order in the 5th. Johnny flew out to left, Paul grounded out to 2B and Lynn bounced out to 3B to complete the scoreless frame.
