Apologize for the delay in today’s publication. In reconstructing the end of the 2nd game between Green and Gray, I came across a discrepancy in the scoring and wanted to resolve that before I shared the results with you. As of now, this issue is still being addresses so the standings are based on the game ending in a 16-16 tie. I will keep you abreast of any changes…

First & Second Inning Recap:
Blue-relishing their climb to the top of the standings and not wishing to relinquish their position, Blue came out hitting on all cylinders in the 1st. Leadoff man Tommy DeLeon drew a walk to get things started. Mike Hill flew out to right center for the 1st out. Raul DeLeon ripped a single to right center to move the runner to 3B. Donnie Janac hit a flyball to center that skittered away from CF Barry McRee allowing Donnie to motor into 2B with a two-run double. Henry Flores lined a single just outside of 2B to drive in Donnie with the 3rd run. Daniel Baladiez followed a drive to center that skied over Barry for a run-scoring double. P Terry Thompson stopped the bleeding by retiring the next two batters. Dave Berra lined out to right center on a nice catch by Ray Pilgrim and Lucky Hoffman, returning to action after an extended absence, grounded out to short to retire the side. 2nd – P Terry T. shut down the Blue ballers on only a single and a walk in the scoreless 2nd inning. Blue’s mercenaries got off to a shaky start as Gary Coyle ground out to short, Patrick Schmidt singled and Tom Brwonfield went down swinging. Tommy drew his 2nd walk but Mike ground into a fielder’s choice to end the frame.
Orange– with both Bobby Miller and Jim Foelker out of the lineup, one might have expected some drop off in offensive production for Orange but that was not the case in today’s ballgame. After Terry Thompson fouled out leading off the inning, the next six batters reached base. Adam Gordon and Jack Adams started the rally with hard hit singles to left center. Bubba Barnett laced a double to right center to score Orange’s first run. Barry McRee absolutely crushed P Tommy DeLeon’s offering with a drive to deep left center for a three-run inside the park home run! Greg Tolander hit a grounder to 3B for what should have been the 3rd out but Daniel was unable to secure Gary’s throw on the play. Luther Elmore walked and Jerry Mylius hit into a fielder’s choice for the 2nd out. Scott Wright squibbed a hit towards the pitcher’s mound that spun back towards the 3B foul line but stopped just short for a single to load the bases. P Tommy D. got out of the jam by getting Ray Pilgrim to foul out to end the threat. 2nd– unlike their counterparts, Orange kept on slugging and put up four more runs in the 2nd. Bobby Hawthorne grounded to 3B and again Daniel was unable to handle the throw from Gary and Bobby was safe at 1B. Terry and Adam followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases with nobody out. Jack put one in orbit over Patrick’s head in left center for a grand slam inside the park home run to put Orange up by four runs. Bubba singled to right, but Tommy retire Barry on a pop up to short and got Greg to foul out for two quick outs. Luther singled but he and Bubba were stranded as Jerry popped out to 2B to retire the side.
End of 2nd Score: Orange 8 Blue 4
3rd Inning Recap:
Blue– fought back and took the lead with a five-run outburst in the 3rd. Raul and Donnie opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Henry’s single to left center brought in the 1st run. Daniel popped out to short for the 1st out. Dave ground out to 2B and ut looked like P Terry T. would escape any further damage. Lucky smacked a hard single through the 5/6 hole to bring in the 2nd run. Gary’s single up the middle plated another runner before Patrick hit a flyball to shallow center. Barry attempted to make a shoestring catch on the ball but it skipped past him allowing Patrick to reach 3B with an inning ending two-run triple.
Orange– they say hitting in contagious and Orange clearly had the bug as they picked up five runs in the bottom half of the 3rd. The mercenaries delivered as Scott led off with a single and scored on Ray’s smash that hugged the left field line all the way to the fence for a double. Bobby walked ahead of Terry’s RBI single to left. Adam reached on an infield single to put runner son 1B and 2B. Jack Adams, have yourself a day, as his two-base hot to left drove in two more runners. Bubba wrapped things up with a hard grounder to 2B that was not handled cleanly allowing Jack to score the 5th run of the inning.
End of 3rd Score: Orange 13 Blue 9
Fourth Inning Recap:
Blue- narrowed the lead to two runs by picking up a couple of scores in the 4th. Tom B. singled to center to get the ball rolling. Tommy was retired on a nice play by his mound counterpart on a comebacker for the 1st out. Mike singled to right center and he and Tom both scored on Raul’s drive to center for a double. Terry was able to retire both Donnie and Henry on infield grounders to close out the inning.
Orange– shut down for the 1st time in the game. Barry ground out to 3B to start the inning. Greg singled but Luther grounded to 3B and Gary fired to 2B and Raul completed the 5-4-3 double play to retire the side.
End of 4th Score: Orange 13 Blue 11
Fifth “Open” Inning Recap:
Blue-chasing two runs, Blue had no answer to Terry’s pitching as they went down in order to close out the game.

First & Second Inning Recap:
Green- Paul Rubin led off the late game with a ground single up the middle just out of the reach of SS Scott Wright. Denny Malloy went down on strikes for the 1st out. Tom Brownfield followed with an RBI triple to right field to get Green on the board. Luis Sanchez drew a walk and Mickey Poole slashed a single to left to plate Tom B. with Green’s 2nd run. P Ray Pilgrim struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning. 2nd– Ray picked up his 3rd strike out in a row leading off the 2nd. Robby Vickery broke the streak with a one-out walk. His pinch runner moved to 2B on Raul DeLeon’s single to right center. Patrick Schmidt bounced into a fielder’s choice for the 2nd out. Paul singled up the middle to drive in the 1st run before Denny ground out to 2B to end the inning.
Gray- Scott Wright and Mike Carroll opened the game with back-to-back singles and Gray looked to be poised for a big inning. Peter Atkins went down swinging for the 1st out. Gary Coyle bounced into a fielder’s choice at 3B for the 2nd out. Ray Pilgrim was retired on a humpback liner over 2B for the final out in the scoreless 1st inning. 2nd– Similar start in this frame as leadoff batters, Lynn Simpson and Larry Coons, reached on singled to open the inning, Margarito Canava was retired on a flyball to left center. Jack Adams blooped a hit down the left field line to bring in the 1st run of the game for Gray. Terry Thompson flew out to right center and Morris Carter fouled out to end the inning.
End of 2nd Score: Green 3 Gray 1
Third Inning Recap:
Green- Tom B. led off with a resounding double to right center and scored on Luis’ hit up the middle. Mickey singled and Tom K. walked to load the bases. William knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice as the force was made at 3B on the play. Larry drew a walk to reload the bases. Robby hit a blooper to shallow left center that dropped in but Larry had to hold up on the play and was forced out at 2B as the runner from 3B scored. Raul’s single brought in the 4th run before Patrick was retired on a comebacker to close out the frame.
Gray- broke out of their mini slump at the plate with some extra base power. Scott drilled a triple to left center to get the inning started. He scored on Mike’s base hit to the right side. Peter drove a ball to left field and legged out a triple as Mike scored the 2nd run. Gary’s single plated Peter with Gray’s 3rd run. Ray was retired and Lynn flew out to right on a nice running catch by William. Larry singled to keep the inning alive, but Margarito lined out to short to end the inning.
End of 3rd Score: Green 7 Gray 4
Fourth Inning Recap:
Green- continued to rake at the plate as the first six batters reached in route to a five-run inning. Paul led off with another infield single. Denny singled to left and Paul scored on Tom B.’s smash to right center. Luis stroked a single up the middle to score Denny with the 2nd run. Mickey picked up his 3rd hit with a single to center. Tom K. drove in the 3rd run with a base hit to right center. William fouled out to short for the 1st out. Larry grounded into a fielder’s choice, but the throw home was a step late and the five-run inning was complete.
Gray- keeping pace with Green with a five-run inning of their own. Jack singled to open the inning. Terry was retired but Morris reached on an infield single to put runners on 1B and 2B. Scott ripped a single to right to drive in the 1st run. Mike walked to load the bases ahead of Peter’s RBI single to center. Gary came through with a two-run single to left center to give Gray four runs in the frame. Ray was retired on a wicked line drive to short, but Lynn delivered with an RBI single to right to plate the 5th run of the inning.
End of 4th Score: Green 12 Gray 9
Fifth “Open” Inning Recap:
Gray– looking to add to their slim three run lead, the Greenies managed to push across four more runs to extend their lead to seven. Robby was retired on a pop fly to 2B on a nice running catch by Peter for the first out. Raul smacked a single up the middle and scored on Patrick’s drive to left center that gapped the outfielder’s and resulted in a two=run homer. Paul walked and Denny singled ahead of Tom B.’s ground out to short. Luis completed his perfect day at the plate with a line single to bring in two more runs. Mickey picked up his 4th hit in as many at bats with another clean single to center before Tom K. grounded out to 2B to retire the side.
Gray– chasing seven with the bottom of the lineup due to bat, things looked pretty safe for Green, but Gray displayed their “never say die” attitude as they fought back to knot the score as this one ended in a tie. Larry picked up his 3rd hit with a leadoff single. His pinch runner, Peter, was narrowly forced out on Margarito’s grounder to short for the 1st out. Jack and Terry followed with back-to-back hits to load the bases. Morris drew a walk to force in the 1st run of the inning, Scott was retired on a fielder’s choice grounder to P Luis with the play going to 2B as Jack scored from 3B. Mike drew his second walk to load the bases. Peter mashed a ball to right that skipped under William’s glove allowing Peter to circled the bases for an inside the park grand slam homer. The scoreboard prior to Peter’s at bat showed Gray trailing by five runs so this should have pulled them to within one. This is where it gets weird.. the Gray team was telling Bruce that the scoreboard was wrong, and they should have sixteen (16) runs. Apparently, he checked with Johnny (?) and he confirmed so the score was changed without any discussion from the opposition. The next batter, Gary, flew out to left on a nice catch by Mickey to retire the side and presumably end this one with a 16-16 tie. Based on the actual results in this inning, it is my belief that Gray only scored six runs and the scoreboard “correction” was unmerited and should not have been done. Without this phantom run, Gray would have lost the game by a run. This game is currently under protest and will be reviewed by the board for further action.

Another week, another team or teams atop the standings. Maybe this competitive balance thing has gone a little too far. Red and Orange are now atop the standings with only a single run separating 1st from 2nd.

Another battle for the top spot in this topsy turvy session. Will any team seize the opportunity and stake their claim as the best of the session?
Red will be taking on the umpire responsibilities in this game.
Blue will have a bye on Monday so there players will have priority in the draw.
