All games for Thursday June 12th are cancelled due to rain and lighting in the area

Game Day Gazette

Special Edition for June 9, 2025

Well, you know what they say, if you don’t like the weather in Texas, wait 15 minutes and it will probably change!

First, I want to apologize for yesterday’s game day cancellation and subsequent “uncancellation”. Greg Lloyd gets to the field in the early morning hours (usually before 5:00 a.m.) and we appreciate him having eyes on the field in addition to the splendid work he and Bruce do to get the games ready to be played.

Yesterday morning, there were thunderstorms all over town and Greg called me at 5:30 a.m. to let me know that the rain was coming down hard at Krieg so we agreed to cancel the games. As you know, this can be a slippery slope as we want to get the word out early enough so those that have a longer commute know not to head out. On the flip side, if we cancel too early and the weather and field conditions change, people will likely be upset that we did not get a chance to play. We made the decision to cancel based on the information we had at the time. In retrospect, we may have acted hastily in cancelling so early as the weather did indeed change (rain stopped!) and miraculously the field became playable (did not even look like it had been rained when I arrive close to 9:00 a.m.). We are trying to do our best and I am sorry not everyone got a chance to play.

Good news is that we did have close to twenty (20) players show up and we had a fun-filled meaningless game with the visitors emerging victorious by an 11-9 score in extra innings (sorry no stats!). We will be treating yesterday as an official rainout so no games will count towards the standings.

In the future, we will try to wait until 6:30 a.m. to make any determination as to the playability of the fields after checking with the City of Austin parks and recreation folks.

The weather for Thursday looks iffy at this time so we will have another chance to get it right. Wish us luck!

On another happy note, I want to thank all of you that have supported the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) fund raiser/ raffle. Between the B and C leagues, we were able to raise $1,350. Terry Thompson, who did a fabulous job organizing this event, has also secured matching fund grants so our total dollars to be donated to CAFB will be over $4,000. The drawing for the Short Porch bat and the Beebe shoes will be held on Monday June 16th and you do not have to be present to win. Good luck to everyone and great job in helping those in need!

As the games on Monday did not count, the standings remain unchanged:
